Vatnajökull Ice Caves
Every winter, meltwater carves new caves beneath the Vatnajökull glacier. No two seasons produce the same formations — each cave is a temporary cathedral of blue ice that exists for only a few months before collapsing. The window to photograph them is narrow and weather-dependent.
Beneath the Ice
The color of the ice is otherworldly. Centuries of compression have squeezed out the air bubbles, leaving ice so dense it absorbs every wavelength of light except deep blue. Standing inside, you feel like you're underwater — everything glows with an electric luminescence that no camera can fully capture.
